Today we are excited to announce the launch of Azure Single Sign-on (SSO) with Fundipedia.
With the growing rise in cybercrime, security has never been so important. The average person has over 30 logins, all requiring a password—these passwords are often reused, shared or become less and less complex as the number of passwords you need to remember grows. SSO can relieve the stress of password management as well as offering a host of other benefits for end users and IT managers.
What is SSO?
Single Sign-on (SSO) is a system that enables users to securely authenticate with multiple applications and websites by logging in only once, with one set of credentials (username and password). With SSO, the application or website that the user is trying to access relies on a trusted third party to verify that users are who they say they are.
You may already use your social media accounts as a login for multiple other websites, helping you reduce the number of passwords you use at home or in the office. This is SSO in action.
So, how does it work?
- When you browse to Fundipedia, a check is made to see if you are already logged on. If you are, great. Continue using the application.
- If you’re not already logged in, Fundipedia will present you with an option to authenticate via Azure active directory.
- Your organisation’s active directory checks your identity and checks to see that Fundipedia is the site it’s claiming to be. If successful, this authenticates you based on the and issues a token back to Fundipedia.
- Fundipedia reads the token, verifying your identity. You are logged in and associated with your user data, preferences, permissions, and so on.
What are the benefits?
Improved compliance, control and security – Allows your IT team to maintain user management and easily adjust accounts across various platforms. If a staff member leaves the organisation, their active directory record is disabled, preventing access to Fundipedia. Access can also be restricted via Active Directory groups.
Increased productivity – Use the same credentials for both Fundipedia and your organisation’s internal systems, eliminating the need for multiple passwords and creating a seamless password-free experience. A single password is easier to remember and change compared to requiring a separate password per application.
Reduced risk – One access point to your application with password policies set by your organisation. This minimises the likelihood of simple or easy-to-crack passwords being used.
